Chariton Valley Electric Cooperative’s (CVEC) statewide trade association, the Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives (IAEC), is governed by a board of directors which includes 7 elected cooperative directors who represent geographical districts of the state. CVEC Director Kenny VandenBerg is in the middle of his second 3-year term on the IAEC Board, representing south-central Iowa electric co-ops in district 1.
“After serving on CVEC’s local board, I wanted to learn more about the electric industry and contribute on a higher level through the IAEC board. My goal while serving on the statewide board is to represent our local cooperatives through educating, telling our stories and voicing our concerns to state and federal legislators,” said Kenny when asked why he decided to serve on the statewide board.
The Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives was established to support the interests of member-owned electric cooperatives, including 39 electric distribution co-ops and 9 generation and transmission co-ops. IAEC was formed in 1942 and aims to unify and empower Iowa's electric cooperatives through legislative representation, regulatory oversight, training and education services, safety programs, communications support and advocacy.
Following IAEC’s 2022 annual meeting of members in early December, the IAEC Board met and appointed officers for 2023. CVEC is pleased to announce that Kenny VandenBerg was named secretary/treasurer of the IAEC Board. “Kenny works diligently on behalf of Chariton Valley Electric Cooperative and the other four cooperatives in District 1 to ensure our statewide organization does the right thing for those we serve, and dutifully represents our membership during these very tumultuous and evolving times in the electricity industry,” said CVEC CEO/General Manager Leilani Todd.
CVEC is proud to have Director VandenBerg work with other cooperative leaders from across our state to advance the cooperative business model, position cooperatives accordingly to continue providing reliable, affordable and environmentally conscious electric service to thousands of cooperative members in the communities we serve.
Congratulations Director VandenBerg!
