Balanced, diverse resources meet our members' needs
Chariton Valley Electric Cooperative receives electricity generated from our wholesale power supplier, Associated Electric Cooperative (AECI), in Springfield, MO as part of a three-tiered system. Your electricity is produced using a mix of fuels and technologies: coal, natural gas, hydropower, wind and energy efficiency. This allows for flexibility while providing reliable, affordable and responsible electricity to you, our member.
AECI’s resources include two coal-based plants and three combined-cycle natural gas plants that produce reliable, affordable power, as well as three peaking gas plants that provide power when demand rises on cold winter or hot summer days. AECI also has contracted power sources, including hydropower and wind energy.
Associated Electric Cooperative, typically uses the lowest-cost resources first to serve member load. AECI also looks for opportunities to purchase power from other utilities at a cost that is lower than it can generate.
To satisfy electricity demand, AECI looks at all cost-effective generation resources that are available. In addition, they continue to implement energy efficiency and equipment rebate programs that reduce energy consumption, as well as reduce the need for new electricity plants.
