At Chariton Valley Electric Cooperative, we deliver reliable, affordable, and responsible electricity to our members by leveraging a diverse range of energy resources through our wholesale power supplier, Associated Electric Cooperative (AECI) based in Springfield, MO.
AECI employs a balanced mix of fuel sources and technologies to meet our energy needs:

Coal and Natural Gas: With two coal-based plants and three combined-cycle natural gas plants, AECI ensures a steady supply of reliable and cost-effective power.

Hydropower and Wind Energy: AECI also utilizes contracted power sources, including hydropower and wind energy, contributing to our commitment to sustainability.

Peaking Gas Plants: To address higher demand during peak periods, such as cold winter days or hot summer days, AECI operates three peaking gas plants.
AECI prioritizes using the most cost-effective resources available and seeks opportunities to purchase power from other utilities when it is economically advantageous. Additionally, AECI implements energy efficiency and equipment rebate programs that help reduce overall energy consumption and the need for new power plants.
