    YOUTH TOUR APPLICATION

What is the Rural Electric Youth Tour?

Every June, as many as 1,500 high school students from across the country spend a week in the nation's capital as part of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Youth Tour. The students are sponsored by electric cooperatives, like Chariton Valley Electric, that are committed to educating America's rural youth about our nation and the role electric cooperatives play in developing strong rural communities.

Participating in the Youth Tour is an awesome way to learn about this great nation, develop leadership skills, gain a better understanding of electric cooperatives, and make friendships that will last beyond the week!

Who Can Attend?

Any full-time sophomore, junior or senior that attends a highschool located within one of the 7 counties of CVEC's territory! Our territory includes Appanoose, Davis, Lucas, Marion, Monroe, Wapello and Wayne counties in the state of Iowa.

Note: neither the student, nor the school itself, is required to receive electricity from CVEC to be eligible.

When Does it Happen?

June 17-23, 2023

How Do I Apply?

COVID Protocol

Please note the Youth Tour Program and attendees will follow these guidelines:

  • Follow current local and CDC rules as well as any additional National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, hotel and venue mandates

  • Require all participants to submit proof of a negative COVID-19 viral test (regardless of vaccination status) taken 72 hours or less before departure.  The Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives will provide parents/guardians with a rapid test to administer to their student

  • Require all chaperones to be fully vaccinated. This is not a political statement or concern; but all precautions available to us need to be taken to stay fully staffed during Youth Tour

  • All students will be encourage, but not require, to be vaccinated

  • All participants and chaperones will take daily temperatures

  • Hand sanitizer and disposable masks will be provided daily

  • Any positive COVID cases will be communicated with parents, students, NRECA, IAEC and the local cooperative (while staying HIPAA compliant) Note: vaccination status will be asked for in the health forms to collect information pertinent to percentages necessitating mask mandates, etc.

  • Medical treatment will be sought when appropriate
