It's not just a good idea-it's the law!

Planning to dig or excavate? Even if you're only going an inch into the soil, you are required by law to contact Iowa One Call at least 48 hours prior to any excavation. Call their toll-free number at 800-292-8989 to schedule your request.

Once you place the call, Iowa One Call will notify all relevant utilities, who will mark their underground facilities with flags or paint to show you where it’s safe to dig. This service is completely free to you—and remember, it’s the law!

Please note that Iowa One Call only marks utility-owned facilities. Chariton Valley Electric Cooperative’s facilities end at the meter. Any facilities owned by you are not covered by Iowa One Call.

It’s essential to call Iowa One Call every time you dig, even if you think you know where your underground facilities are located. Doing so can prevent service interruptions, injury, or even death.
