Chariton Valley Electric Cooperative Selects Two Students for the 2025 Youth Tour
Chariton Valley Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CVEC) is excited to announce its local representatives for the 2025 Youth Tour in Washington, D.C. This year, Cassidy Thompson and Logun Ostermeyer have been chosen for this prestigious opportunity to explore our nation’s capital, develop leadership skills and gain a deeper understanding of electric cooperatives.
Cassidy Thompson, a senior at Albia Community High School, is the daughter of Michelle and Darwin Thompson of Albia. An active student, Cassidy participates in cheerleading, show choir, theater, tennis, solo and ensemble, and serves as a wrestling manager. Beyond school, she gives back to the community through volunteer work, including community clean-ups, caroling at the Victorian Stroll, reading to nursing home residents and mentoring young cheerleaders. When asked what issue she would like to discuss with a member of Congress, Cassidy shared her passion for the arts: “I would want to talk about school funding for the arts. Music is something many students love and have a passion for, but our show choir and music activities are going downhill.”
Logun Ostermeyer, a junior at Albia Community High School, is the son of Katie and Kyle Popson of Albia. He is actively involved in basketball, tennis, band, jazz band and show band. While he did not provide a specific quote, Logun expressed his commitment to representing Chariton Valley Electric Cooperative and his community with utmost respect and gratitude throughout the trip.
From June 15-21, 2025, Cassidy and Logun will join approximately 40 other Iowa students—and more than 1,400 high schoolers nationwide—for an unforgettable experience in Washington, D.C. Highlights of the trip include touring historical landmarks, engaging with elected officials and learning firsthand about the legislative process and the role of electric cooperatives.
CVEC is proud to support the Youth Tour program each year, made possible through the generosity of its membership. Investing in the next generation of leaders and giving back to the communities we serve remains at the heart of our cooperative’s mission.
