Chariton Valley Electric Cooperative Announces 2026 Youth Tour Representatives
Chariton Valley Electric Cooperative (CVEC) has selected two local students to represent the cooperative on the 2026 Electric Cooperative Youth Tour to Washington, D.C.
This year’s representatives are Isla Avery, a student at Centerville High School, and Kirah Whitney, a student at Moravia High School. The students were selected through an application and interview process and will join other Iowa students in June for the weeklong leadership experience in the nation’s capital.
Sponsored by electric cooperatives across the country, the Youth Tour gives high school students the opportunity to learn more about government, public policy and the cooperative business model. While in Washington, D.C., participants will visit national monuments and museums, meet with members of Congress and connect with students from rural communities across the United States.
“We are proud to support these students and provide them with the opportunity to experience our nation’s capital,” said Troy Amoss, CEO/General Manager of Chariton Valley Electric Cooperative. “Youth Tour helps develop future leaders and gives students a deeper understanding of how cooperatives serve their communities.”
Isla Avery
Isla Avery is a sophomore at Centerville High School and the daughter of Evan and Rodganna Avery. At school, she is involved in band, FFA, FCCLA, wrestling, cross country, cheer, track and field, student council, speech and drama club. In their free time, Isa enjoys participating in 4-H and being an active member of her church. She is excited for the opportunity to visit Washington, D.C., meet other students from across the country and gain a better understanding of how government works.
Kirah Whitney
Kirah Whitney is a sophomore at Moravia High School and the daughter of Heather and Chad Whitney. She participates in volleyball, basketball, trapshooting and FFA, and enjoys being involved in her church’s youth group outside of school. Kirah is looking forward to participating in Youth Tour and learning more about the nation’s history and government.
CVEC is proud to support the Youth Tour program each year, made possible through the generosity of its membership. Investing in the next generation of leaders and giving back to the communities we serve remains at the heart of our cooperative’s mission.
